Flags & Jump Tags
A flag on a port says "this connection leaves the drawing." Pair two flags and they become an off-page connector, carrying a run from one sheet to the next without a wire crossing the page break.
Two shapes, one idea
A tag is a short stub off a port ending in a labelled body. The body has two shapes:
- Box (the default) — a readout. Use it to name what sits on the other end of a jack.
- Flag — a pennant with an arrow point. Use it when the connection departs the drawing: to a network, to another sheet, to plant that is out of scope.
A tag can also carry a connector icon at its outer end — power or lan — so a reader tells a network departure from a power feed at a glance.
Placing one
- Click Tag in the toolbar. The cursor turns into a crosshair.
- Click the port you want to flag. A tag appears, labelled
Client LANto start. - Right-click it and choose Edit Label... to name it —
Client LAN,AV Network,To IDF-2, whatever the field needs. - Right-click again for Tag Shape (Box or Flag) and Connector Icon (none, power, or lan).
The rest of the menu: Duplicate copies the label, shape, and icon and then waits for you to click the next port; Delete removes the tag.
Jump tags — pairing two flags
A wire never crosses a sheet. When a run continues on another page, flag both ends and pair them:
- Right-click the first flag and choose Link to Tag. The cursor changes.
- Click the second flag. The two are now a pair.
- Hover either one and the tooltip names the far end — Crestron CP4N — COM 1 — page 3: the device, the port, and the sheet it sits on.
Right-click a paired flag and choose Unlink to break the pair; both sides clear together. Unlink appears only while the partner still exists.
A tag belongs to at most one pair. Link to a flag that is already paired and it leaves its old partner for the new one. While you are picking the second flag, hovering an already-paired one warns you first: "Already linked to ... Linking here will unlink it."
When a network jack gets a flag
A network jack is any port whose type is RJ45 or etherCON — a LAN port, a Dante or AVB port, an AES67 or NDI port, a control LAN. It wires device-to-device like any other jack: AVB to AVB, Dante to Dante, a control LAN to a touch panel. The jack's own label is what tells you which network it is on. Auto-wiring flags one only when the far end is not on this page — the building LAN, an IDF switch nobody drew, a run that continues on another sheet — using the pennant shape and the lan icon so the sheet reads as a departure rather than a note. A PD jack lands on the jack that can supply it. That far jack must supply at least the drawing jack's tier. An unstated far jack is stored anyway, with a warning that asks you to confirm it later. A far jack set to none is refused. A far jack that is itself PD is refused too — two drawing jacks facing each other means nothing on that run supplies power. A far jack that supplies a lower tier is refused as well. Only when no jack on the page can take the draw does the port get a flag saying its power comes from outside this drawing. A device that claims a tier with no jack marked PD gets one notice for the device, not one per wire.
A flagged jack is finished work — it records where the connection goes and states that the far end is out of frame.
On exports and bundles
Flags are part of the sheet. They print on PDF exports, appear in generated schematic images, and travel with a saved schematic bundle alongside its devices and wires.
